About Algebra 1+
This year in Room 209 the students are enrolled in an Algebra 1+ class. Algebra 1+ has the same rigor and content (Standards) as the standard Algebra 1 class, but is two periods long (each day) instead of one, and is taught by two teachers (Ms. Lowrance and Mr. Ronai (me!). As a student, you qualify to be in an Algebra 1+ class if prior (8th-grade) scores suggest that you could benefit from a little extra help in getting up to grade level in math skills. Algebra 1+ is designed for just that purpose. Like all classes at Cordova High, we use the Gradual Release method of teaching, which starts with teacher modeling and ends with students demonstrating their mastery of the concept. At the end of the year our students will take the Algebra 1 EOC State-mandated exam, and we expect each of our students to show growth in their math skills with the goal being that they are at-grade-level or above in math skills.
