Fall Break is coming to a close (sigh). I hope you and your scholars had a nice week. On October 9th each student was assigned a set of short assignments on Khan Academy, all due on Oct. 20th. Most of the assignments were watching videos, and there were also some exercises to do and a couple of short quizzes. As I write this, some students have completed the assignments and some are still working on it. Many have not begun - even though the assignments were given during class and time was provided for each student to start on the tasks. I sent a text to each parent around 1 PM on 10/20 containing the percent of the assignments their scholar had completed.
To get to these assignments, students should go to jacronai.com and click on the ASSIGNMENTS tab at the top of the page. A drop-down menu appears, and the student should click on the KHAN ACADEMY link. Each student will need to log on with their username and password. These were given out during class, and I've also sent them in a text to the parent contact phone number I have. Contact me if your scholar is having trouble getting onto Khan Academy. We also took the Shelby County district benchmark assessment during the week before Break. On average, student scored around 33% on the benchmark. A successful score on that assessment would have been above 50 percent. Please discuss your scholar's work habits and encourage them to apply themselves to both the work in class and to the homework assigned. I am supplying students with a journal to take notes in and pencils when they forget to bring one to class. I offer tutoring twice per week after school (Tuesdays and Thursdays) and there are other resources available for students to gain mastery of the class content. Quarter 2 of the year is about to begin and Ms. Lowrance and I have high expectations for our students. We will begin the Quarter reviewing graphing and then move on to learning about linear equations. Please remind your scholar of the importance of a strong work ethic and what it means to be respectful to other students in the classroom.
